The Bio-based and Biodegradable Industries Association
The potential for bio-based solutions to contribute to the UK economy is skyrocketing.
BBIA’s mission is to unite those working in the biodegradable and bio-based industries and to develop partnerships with those who share our vision: to put the Bio-economy agenda at the centre of the political debate on sustainability and economic growth in the UK
To open up opportunities and standards in the emerging green economy market, BBIA will work with companies and organisations involved in the production of bio-based and biodegradable chemicals and polymers for the benefit of the environment.
The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre
Launched in 2014 The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) was set up to bridge the gap between education and industry.
We are specialists in the industrial biotechnology (IB) sector, with a deep embedded knowledge and the technical expertise to help stimulate the growth and success of the IB industry in Scotland by connecting the dots between industry, academia and government. We represent all four colours of IB, facilitating collaborations and guiding organisations from a concept or idea, through to industry adoption.
Our vision is to create a truly distinctive, world-leading innovation centre for industrial biotechnology. We will accelerate and de-risk the development of commercially viable, sustainable solutions for high-value manufacturing in chemistry-using and life science sectors. By 2030 our target is to generate £1 to £1.5bn of Gross Value Added contribution annually to the Scottish economy, this represents a growth of revenue from today’s estimated value of £190M, to between £2 and £3bn.
